David Tod Roy

David Tod Roy was an American sinologist and scholar of Chinese literature who served as a professor at the University of Chicago from 1967 to 1999. He is best known for his comprehensive five-volume translation of the Ming dynasty novel Jin Ping Mei, published by Princeton University Press between 1993 and 2013. Roy was the first translator to render the complete text of the novel into English, including passages previously omitted in earlier editions.
